Spiros D. Komis
Spiros Komis is committed to his clients and takes pride in counseling a wide-range of entities, from start-up companies to large regional corporations. His practice is broadly based in three major areas: civil litigation, contract formation, and commercial transaction matters.
Spiros represents clients in state and federal courts in both Virginia and Maryland, as well as before state and federal administrative agencies, including the DOL, EEOC, OSHA, IRS, and SEC.
A substantial part of Spiros’ practice involves counseling both employees and management in employment disputes, including claims involving wrongful termination, tortious interference, defamation, negligent retention, civil conspiracy, and violations under the FMLA, FLSA, and Title VII. In early 2010, Spiros served as lead counsel to a corporate whistleblower who alleged retaliatory discharge under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (“SOX”). In 2009, Spiros pursued breach of contract and tortious interference claims on behalf of an expelled CEO of a multi-million dollar Virginia corporation. Spiros has also counseled parties on the enforceability of restrictive covenants (“non-competes”).
In addition to his employment law practice, Spiros represents corporations in a host of other litigation and transactional matters. In 2009, Spiros assisted the firm in successfully defending a corporation’s officers and directors against a multi-million dollar shareholder derivative action.
Spiros also currently represents commercial and residential real estate builders in contract and other disputes. Additionally, Spiros serves as outside general counsel to several renewable and alternative energy companies located in Northern Virginia.
Prior to joining the firm, Spiros was an associate in the litigation department of a large Tysons Corner law firm where he worked on a variety of litigation matters, including, employment disputes, commercial lease disputes, land use and covenant claims, as well as antitrust actions.
Spiros earned his law degree from George Mason University School of Law and received his undergraduate degree in Economics from James Madison University. He is licensed to practice law in both Virginia and Maryland.
